Before leaving Home

Baggage Information

Find out how many pieces of luggage you are allowed to take with you. It is a good idea to tag all your bags with your name and contact information before you get to the airport. Do not use your home address or business title. Click here for carry-on and checked baggage allowance.

Pack your own bags; never let someone else do it.

Ensure there are no sharp objects like scissors in your carry-on bag. Pack them in your checked luggage instead. You should also be aware that any substances capable of posing risks to health, safety or the environment when transported, such as cleaning solvents, aerosols or other common items, are not permitted on aircraft. A list of dangerous goods is also available.

Pack prescription medication in its original labeled container. Syringes or needles for personal medical use must have the needle guard in place and also be accompanied by the medication in its original container.

Make sure electronic devices such as cell phones, laptop computers and portable or electronic games are charged and ready to turn on for inspection, as you may be required to turn these devices on when going through airport security.

Make sure you have an appropriate piece of government-issued photo identity card with you, such as a driver's licence for domestic travel or a passport for international travel. Keep your identity card handy and accessible. You may be required to show it at the check-in counter and before boarding your flight.

Know how early you should arrive at the Airport. Check with Virgin Nigeria customer service, because check-in times may vary by flight and destination. Dangerous goods cause delays for travellers. Be sure to arrive well before your departure time.

Dressing for your trip

Wear shoes that can be removed easily as you may be required to do so for screening;;

Be aware that metal items on your person may trigger metal detector alarms (i.e. belt, buttons, body piercing, and steel toe shoes) and may require further screening.

Pack your jacket in your carry-on baggage or remove it and place it in a tray for screening.

Tips on packing your checked baggage

Certain items are not permitted aboard an aircraft, whether it is placed in your carry-on or your checked baggage. Please consult the list and the following tips when packing your checked baggage:

Your checked baggage may be subject to a physical search. Please pack your baggage efficiently and place personal items (i.e. toothbrush) in clear plastic bags;

Passengers are advised to pack their film in their carry-on baggage. The equipment used at pre-board screening (PBS) areas will not damage film under 800 ISO/ASA. However, multiple exposures (more than 5 times) of the same roll of film to PBS x-ray inspection may cause damage. Most amateur photographers use film in the 100-400 ISO/ASA range. Specialty film is defined as film with an ASA/ISO 800 or higher and typically used by professionals. If passengers are concerned about their film, once they have placed it in their carry-on baggage, they may request a hand search at the PBS area. Please note that physical search of films will be carried when circumstances permit.

Do not wrap gifts. Their contents may need to be inspected.
