11 November 07 EMBRAER SELLS 24 E-JETS TO VIRGIN NIGERIA.
Lagos, Nigeria: November 11, 2007: Embraer has signed a firm aircraft order with expanding Nigerian carrier, Virgin Nigeria for ten E-Jets. The order specifies seven EMBRAER 170 Advanced Range (AR) and three EMBRAER 190 AR aircraft. In addition, there are options for six EMBRAER 190 AR and purchase rights for eight EMBRAER 190 and 195s. The total order is valued at US$ 811 million (at current list prices) if all options are confirmed. Delivery of the first aircraft is scheduled for September 2008..
Virgin Nigeria intends to deploy the EMBRAER 170 on its growing domestic and regional network, rightsizing the aircraft to the market size on some of the routes currently operated by B737-300. The EMBRAER 190 will be deployed on its regional and international markets. With their advanced range capabilities, type rating commonalities and flexibilities, both aircraft will be able to serve the whole network, including long routes like Lagos to Dakar, based on passenger capacity demand. “These new E-Jets from EMBRAER will greatly enhance our ability to serve the corporate market, enabling us to offer our passengers superior standards and better match seat capacity and frequency to passenger demand network-wide,” said Mr. Felix Ohiwerei, Chairman, Board of Directors of Virgin Nigeria. “We believe the Embraer E-Jet family will give us the edge over the competition, as well as provide us with a family of jets with versatile capabilities.”
The E-Jets will be configured with a dual class cabin. The First Class will be equipped with seven superior 20” wide seats for the Embraer 170 and with 12 seats for the EMBRAER 190.
“Virgin Nigeria’s choice of the EMBRAER 170 is a strategic breakthrough in this promising Sub-Saharan African market,” said Mauro Kern, Embraer Executive Vice-President, Airline Market. “We are extremely pleased by Virgin Nigeria’s decision to select aircraft from EMBRAER and are sure that our E-Jets will provide the airline with the capability it needs to expand its network even further. The EMBRAER 190 will help take Virgin Nigeria to new heights with its unparalleled combination of right capacity, cabin comfort, impressive performance and superior economics.” he added.
