21 January 08 VIRGIN NIGERIA’S CEO APPOINTED
EXECUTIVE MEMBER OF AFFRA
Lagos, Nigeria: 21 January 2008: AFRAA, the not for profit, African Airlines Association has appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Nigeria, Mr. Conrad Clifford as a member of the Executive Committee.
AFRAA was established in 1968 with the objective of promoting the development of safe, reliable, economical and efficient air transport services in Africa. The Executive Committee is made up of 9 members who are experienced Aviation Professionals from African Airlines. They are elected to formulate and determine policies as well as supervise the affairs within the framework of the articles of the association. Conrad Clifford was elected as a member of the Executive Committee during the recent annual general assembly of AFRAA in Mauritius. At this assembly, the articulation of the views of member airlines on matters and problems of common interest as well as fostering closer commercial and technical co-operation among African air transport enterprises were discussed and solutions proffered.Speaking on his appointment, Conrad Clifford said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve through this committee and I look forward to making positive contributions towards the development of Aviation in Africa’’.
Conrad Clifford brings to AFRAA 27 years experience, having started his aviation career in 1981 as a management trainee in Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong.
14 years later, Conrad joined Virgin Atlantic Airways as the General Manager Commercial and he was the Crisis Commander for VAA after the event of the 9/11 World Trade Center handling the day to day management of all areas of the airline in the event of any emergency
During his 8 year stay in Virgin Atlantic Airways, he rose to the position of Commercial Director, supporting Richard Branson to negotiate the entry of Virgin Atlantic into Nigeria.
Subsequently, he spent 3 years with Menzies Aviation as Commercial Director and Director Africa and Asia Pacific setting up aircraft and ground handling operations in West Africa, Australasia and China.

Also acting as representatives for Nigeria and West Africa in various other sub committees are Various Staff of Virgin Nigeria, who are represented in Sub Committees such as Commercial, Economic/Finance; Fuel, Technical, Training and Legal. Representatives are namely Dorcas Aketch, Francis Okenwa, Akintunde Oyedijo, Ayokunle Jimoh, Catherine Ezeafulukwe and Ayodele Williams.
